What front and rear coil springs should I use on my S1?

What front and rear coil springs should I use on my S1?

Postby guymadgwick » Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:29 pm

I am rebuilding my 1979 S1 Phaeton fitted with ford xflow and and want to replace the front + rear springs and shocks
I notice from the origional build manual that the front uses triumph front springs cut down to 11". What rating should I get
Also for the rear is it the same as the front?
What shocks are ok to use?
thanks

there is on the other dutton forum site an article on spring rates, you can easily buy coil overs for your car fronts are about 150- 180lb/" and rears at about 130-150lb/" you really don't want to go too stiff it wont improve the handling except on a very smooth race track. My car is a 1979 S1 with a pinto and the rear suspension was 175lb/" at the rear it now has 150lb/" and what a difference! it is still firm but now holds the road instead of sliding round corners.
Legerra 2.0L pinto (currentcar)
Phaeton S1 project car (1 sold!)
Special loosely based on "locost"
